A 23-YEAR-OLD woman of Chipulukusu township in Ndola has committed suicide after a quarrel with her husband.
Copperbelt deputy commissioner of police Byemba Musole said in an interview yesterday that Alice Banda of house number KSB 111, committed suicide around 22:00 hours on Friday.
He said Ms Banda’s husband identified as Mujendu Nyirenda, 27, reported the matter to police on Sunday.
And a 28-year-old teacher of Maliko Mponge School in Mungwi attempted to commit suicide on Saturday around 14:00 hours by jumping into a well near her parent’s house.
Northern Province deputy commissioner of police Alfred Nawa identified the woman as Florence Lesa.
Mr Nawa said Ms Lesa was rescued by her brother, Victor Chola, 28, who pulled her out of the well using a rope.
“Ms Lesa is in Kasama General Hospital receiving treatment,’’ Mr Nawa said.
She said Ms Lesa’s mother, Rosemary Chimba, 49, told police officers that her daughter attempted suicide because she had personal problems.
And police in Mpulungu district have arrested Francis Mulenga, 38, of Mupata village for alleged arson.
Mr Nawa said Mulenga is believed to have set Jackson Chipepa’s house on fire after they allegedly differed over a woman.
“Mr Chipepa, 43, reported to the police that his house was set on fire at 03:00 hours by Mulenga also of the same village,’’ Mr Nawa said.
Mulenga has been arrested and charged with arson and will appear in court soon.
