BOXING Heroine, Esther Phiri broke down as she narrated the circumstances that forced her to quit boxing in 2013.

Speaking at a Sponsorship Networking breakfast meeting held at Intercontinental Hotel this morning, Phiri said, ” I took a break due to medical reasons. I was told that I was sick. However after having gone many medical procedures, I called my promoter and told him that I wanted my license back.”

” I told him that someone was doing this to me.I just wasn’t myself then. Out of determination I told myself that I was going back in the ring to fight. I am ready to do this, I am a champion,” said a teary Phiri.

Esther Phiri is scheduled to fight against Sandra Almeida of South Africa on May 22.

Also, addressing delegates at the meeting, Agriculture and Livestock Minister, Given Lubinda  said Esther Phiri was an inspiration to many young people.
