Land dispute ends in fatal shooting

A 60- year- old man of Chozi Village in Nakonde district of Muchinga Province has been shot dead over a land dispute. 


The incident has been confirmed to the Zambia News and information services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today by Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka.


Mr Daka said Clement Sinkala aged 60 of Chozi village was shot dead by Peter Silungwe of Nakaya Village of Mungwi District. 


The Muchinga Province Police Commissioner said Sinkala was shot dead after a dispute over land erupted between the two.


Mr Daka said a suspected homemade gun was used to shot the deceased and that Silungwe has since been arrested and the gun recovered.


In a similar incident an 80- year- old man of Mwembe Village in Isoka district of Muchinga has been murdered by unknown people.


The incident was also confirmed by Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka.


Mr Daka said Cheleson Simwanza was last seen on 29th April coming from the field but did not reach home.  


The Muchinga Province Police Commissioner said the body of Simwanza was later discovered with two deep cuts on his forehead and a damaged right eye socket.


Police said no arrests have been made so far and investigations have been launched.
