A 54 year-old man of Chief Hamunadu’s area in Pemba District has been allegedly shot dead by unknown people.

 

Meanwhile, Police in Pemba have arrested 23 year-0ld woman suspected to have allegedly murdered her mother over the weekend in Hanyenzu Village in Chief Hamundu’s area.

 

Southern Province Police Commissioner Ms Mary Chikwanda confirmed both incidents to ZANIS today.

 

Ms Chikwanda said in the first incident,  the deceased identified as Mr. Benson Mutinta  was resting alone in a shelter locally known as ‘ Chikuta’ around 19:00 hours yesterday  after work when he was shot in the head and the back by unknown people and died on the spot.

 

She said   some family members who rushed outside after they heard the gun shots  found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with deep gunshot wounds on his head and back.

 

“ We have a report in Pemba District where a 54 year-old man was shot dead by unknown people for unknown reasons and the deceased who sustained gunshot wounds on the head and back died on the spot,” said Ms Chikwanda.

 

The police Commissioner added that investigations have since been launched  to hunt down the suspects and have appealed to members of the public to help with information leading to the arrest of those behind the killing.

 

In the second incidence, Ms Chikwanda said a 23 year-old woman identified as Joyce Mutinta has been arrested today for allegedly murdering her 61 year-old mother identified as Ms Luziya Nambulo.

 

Ms Chikwanda said the suspect is alleged to have killed her mother on 25th April, 2015 and buried her 40 metres away from their home in a shallow grave.

 

“ We received yet another report where a 23 year-old woman is alleged to have killed her mother and buried her about 40 metres away from their home in a shallow grave,” said Ms Chikwanda.

 

She added that police have also mounted serious investigations into the matter.

 

Ms Chikwanda said police are also yet to establish the motive behind the killing of the mother and what weapon she might have used in the act.
