POLICE in Chingola have arrested a pastor of Evangel Assemblies of God in Chingola for allegedly murdering his eight-month pregnant wife.
Copperbelt deputy commissioner of police Byemba Musole said in an interview yesterday that Floyd Pule, 32, of house number 37B, Kitwe Road, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering his wife Bahati Kabange, 26.
Mr Musole said the ‘man of God’ allegedly beat his wife to death on February 10 this year around 02:00 hours but the matter was only reported to police on April 15 by Ms Kabange’s relatives after Pule allegedly failed to disclose the cause of his wife’s death.
“Reports reaching us are that on the material day, the suspect was heard playing music loudly whilst praying around 02:00 hours.
“But  after a while, the suspect emerged from the house screaming on top of his voice that his wife had collapsed due to high blood pressure,” Mr Musole said.
He said Pule was only arrested on Thursday after Ms Kabange’s relatives suspected foul play and demanded a second postmortem, which was carried out on April 15 this year.
Mr Musole said the first postmortem was carried out on March 13 this year.
He said the body has since been re-buried.
“The first postmortem was not conclusive, so the relatives, who suspected foul play, demanded a second one, which indicated that the deceased died as a result of brain damage.
“The suspect has since been charged with murder and he will appear in court soon,” Mr Musole said.
