POLICE in Solwezi have arrested six people for allegedly illegally registering 500 youths on the Kalumbila mine data base on the pretext of offering them employment once mining operations start in June this year.
North-Western Province criminal investigations officer Charles Mbita said in an interview yesterday that the six were arrested on Saturday at former Esco premises opposite Solwezi Central Police Station.
Dr Mbita identified the six as Lazarus Mukuka, 42, of Kazomba township in Solwezi, Mike Tembo, 34, of Kaunda Square stage one in Lusaka and Michael Chalwe, 25, of Chazanga township in Lusaka.
Others are Reuben Siame, 44, of Chawama township in Lusaka, Hasten Luyako, 26, of Kyawama township in Solwezi and John Kayenda, 23, also of Solwezi.
“We have picked six people for allegedly registering 500 youths on April 4, 2015 between 08:00 hours and 11:00 hours purporting that they will be employed at Kalumbila when in fact the exercise was suspended,” Dr Mbita said.
He said the six have been charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and they will appear in court soon.
