The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has strongly advised the PF government not to use its constitution enactment proposal as a means to evade people’s wishes.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe cautions government to be wary of the consequences and risks that might arise in the event its proposal does not produce a new people driven constitution.
Mr Cheembe has told Qfm News in an interview that if the government proposal is to fail, this will prove to be a great de-service to the people.

Mr. Cheembe states that this is why SACCORD believes that government’s proposal can only be considered favorable if it guarantees that all of the people’s submissions contained in the final draft constitution will be passed by Parliament.
He says this entails that government needs to categorically make an assurance to the people of Zambia that all they have aspired and wished for in the final draft constitution will be passed by Parliament, while it works on adopting the Bill of Rights through a referendum.
