Lilongwe, 21 March: Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody Benson Chisale, 29, from Madada village, Traditional Authority Mpezeni in Chipata Zambia, and have recovered a revolver with eight (8) rounds of ammunition at his house in area 24B in Lilongwe.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula the police recovered the gun and the ammunitions after getting a tip from well-wishers.

Said Dandaula, “Police got a tip from some members of the general public that the suspect was keeping a gun. Police then, went and raided his house in the early hours of Friday and found a revolver and eight (8) rounds of live ammunitions.”

The Publicist also said investigations revealed that the gun had no license but the suspect claimed to have bought it from a Malawian national within the city. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to trace where he got the revolver.

Dandaula said it is suspected that the accused has been using the revolver for robberies in and around Lilongwe city.

“He will be charged with robbery and illegal possession of firearms contrary to section 301 of the penal code,” said Dandaula.
