-The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) has expressed  happiness over the appointment of former acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda as judge president of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Court of Justice.

YWCA national president Lucy Masiye said her organisation was thrilled by this development which she said was a clear indication that Zambia was on course in terms of women representation.

She said  the organisation has never doubted Justice Chibesakunda’s capabilities to discharge her duties hence her appointment as first female judge president for the COMESA Court of Justice was  encouraging to women.

Ms. Masiye told ZANIS in a telephone interview that Justice Chibesakunda’s international recognition could not have come at a right time than now when the world has just celebrated international women’s day on March 8.

Ten COMESA member states presented candidates for the position of judge president of the regional body’s Court of Justice.

Justice Chibesakunda becomes the first female judge president for the COMESA Court of Justice, which is hosted in Khartoum, Sudan.
