Government says it is unchristian of former Church of God overseer bishop John Mambo to doubt the fitness of President Edgar Lungu.

Chief Government spokesman Chishimba K ambwili says as a man of God, bishop Mambo is expected to pray for the President and not doubt God’s power.

Mr Kambwili says Bishop Mambo is supposed to preach faith and trust in God and not to join the bandwagon of what the Minister has termed malicious people bent on peddling falsehoods about the President’s health.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. Kambwili.

Bishop Mambo is quoted in Post newspaper as saying State House Spokesman Amos Chanda should desist from informing the nation on the President’s health because he is not a doctor.

Mr. Kambwili says Bishop Mambo is being hypocritical by stating that Mr. Chanda is not a medical doctor to talk about the President’s health, because he, himself, is not a medical doctor.

He said Zambians have been crying for transparency concerning the health of the President.

The Chief Government spokesperson said the PF administration has gone out of its way to ensure people are updated about President Lungu’s health, which is unprecedented.

Meanwhile, Government says it does not have money to hold a referendum to enact a new republican constitution this year.

Chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili, however, says government is ready to make amendments to the current constitution on clauses which do not affect the bill of rights.

Mr. Kambwili says government is of the view that the bill of rights which is the most pressing issue should be tackled through a referendum to be held side by side with the 2016 general election to cut down on costs.

The Chief government spokesperson said this when he featured on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview’ programme on Sunday.
