The Zambian Voice has petitioned the Law Association of Zambia to commence contempt of Court proceedings against Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Chama following his attack on Judge Mwila Chitabo over his earlier decision to grant suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito an application for judicial review.

Zambian Voice Executive Director Chilufya Tayali in a letter to the Law Association of Zambia dated 16th March 2015 availed to QFM News says the statement by Mr Mwila is an assault on the independence of the Judiciary thereby a violation of good governance in a constitutional democracy.

Mr Tayali states that the statement by the PF Secretary General if left unchecked will make the Zambian people lose confidence in the judiciary.

He says such a scenario should not be entertained at all cost by stakeholders such the Law Association of Zambia.

Mr Tayali states that the statement by Mr Chama and the subsequent vacation of the stay order by Judge Chitabo is hard to accept regardless of the soundness of the grounds stated in his ruling.

He says LAZ should go beyond its statement of condemnation of Mr Chama by having him answer charges of contempt of court so that he can defend his statement if at all he is on firm grounds on what he said or he should apologise for his statement.

  1. Who is this choked voice? Did you see what happened in India? We don’t want that in Zambia.

  2. It is sad that Davies Chama thinks every issue is based on Politics. It is also sad that Chama wants to take the DPP issue as a Pf issue. Even me as a lay man Know that that issue is a government issue that does not need a party secretary General to comment on. Maybe we need to advise him that the only person to comment on that is Chishimba Kambwili who is government spokesperson. And if the government spokesperson was unable to comment, it would have been better for Minister of Justice to have commented. What Chama should know is that there is an Executive wing of government which he is not part of, Legislaation wing of government and he is not part of that, there is also the Judiciary and he is far from it. He should seperate party functions from government functions. Why is Davies Chama so desperate as Pf Secretary General. He should remember that he is not the first one to hold that office. That’s why people get confused when they are dropped, they get to big headed and forget appointments are temporary. And Davies Chama’s days at Pf secretariat are numbered.
