PATRIOTIC Front (PF) chairperson for elections Emmanuel Mpakata says former member Giles Yambayamba, allegedly  asked to be paid in exchange for him to withdraw his candidature in the parliamentary by-election set for April 14.
But Mr Yambayamba has denied asking for money from the PF in exchange for the withdrawal of his candidature in the parliamentary by-election.
The former PF member successfully petitioned the election of former Senga Hill member of Parliament Kapembwa Simbao.
Mr Mpakata said in an interview on Thursday that Mr Yambayamba has ended his political career by contesting the Senga Hill parliamentary seat on the UPND.
Mr Mpakata said Mr Yambayamba decided to defect to the UPND because the party allegedly refused to give in to his demands to be paid.
Mr Yambayamba is contesting the Senga Hill parliamentary seat on the UPND ticket after the PF adopted Mr Simbao to re-contest the seat on the ruling party ticket.
Mr Simbao was an MMD MP until last month’s court nullification of his election.
“At first he asked for K10 million then he demanded for K6 million but when we turned that down again, he is now demanding for K400,000.
“But as a party, we think that Mr Yambayamba is not a genuine member, he is free to join the UPND and we will meet him in the field,” Mr Mpakata said.
He said Mr Yambayamba has ended his political career because he will not win the Senga Hill parliamentary seat.
“The central committee carefully selected the candidates and now Mr Yambayamba thinks he is wiser than us. We will meet him on the political battle front,” Mr Mpakata said
But Mr Yambayamba denied asking or receiving money from the PF.
He said he will remain principled and ensure that he wins the Senga Hill parliamentary seat.
