Govt to establish community sports centres

Government says it is in the process of establishing community sports centres in order to promote sport development.

 

Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela said the Community Safe Spaces will involve building play areas with basic sports facilities to encourage participation in sporting activities.

 

Mr Chitotela was speaking during the launch of the phase two of Yamato Playing Fields at Olympic Africa Centre in Lusaka.

 

He said the Community Safe Spaces which are expected to be built in every constituency will help in identifying talent at grassroots level and enhance health living for older people.

 

And Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Kiyoshi Koinuma hailed the existing cordial relations between the Japanese and Zambian governments.

 

Ambassador Koinuma expressed optimism that the Yamato Fields will help to reduce child delinquency and non- communicable diseases in the area.

 

The Japanese government through their cultural grassroots projects has allocated funds amounting to US$104,000 to implement t phase one of Yamato Fields which includes the construction of an athletics track, football pitch, and netball and tennis court.

 

Mr Koinuma said in the second phase over US$ 100,000 will be released for further development of Yamato Fields.
