Kabanshi tells women to get empowerment funds

Lusaka, February 6, ZANIS–Government has urged women groups in the country to take advantage of the women empowerment fund to improve their lives.

Minister of Community Development Mother and Child Health Emerine Kabanshi said the women empowerment fund can enable the women to improve their livelihoods through increased income generation.

Ms. Kabanshi reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue empowering vulnerable women through the provision of collateral free loans under the government scheme micro credit programme.

The minister however challenged women to come up with innovative business ideas and apply for the various government empowerment programmes.

Ms. Kabanshi said this today when she officiated at the Barclays Bank community event at Chikumbuso Women and Orphans Project in Ng’ombe Township in Lusaka.

She urged women in the country to take necessary steps and engage in activities that will shape their lives and the entire world.

At the same event, Barclays Bank plc handed over assorted stationery worth K11, 000.00 as part of this year international women day celebrations which falls on Sunday under the theme “Gender is my agenda, make it happen”.

Chikumbuso Women and Orphans Project provides services to the community of Ng’ombe such as youth life skills, free education to children, adult literacy and training and capacity building to over 40 women through micro enterprise opportunities.
