Eight Social Cash Transfer vehicles handed over to districts in Western province

 

 Mongu, March 4, ZANIS —————– The Department of Social Welfare through the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health yesterday handed-over eight Social Cash Transfer (SCT) 4 x 4 Toyota Land Cruisers to eight districts that are on the SCT programme in Western Province.

 

The Social Cash Transfer is a government programme that has been operation in Zambia since 2003 aimed at reducing extreme poverty and inter-generational transfer of poverty by enabling poor families invest in better food, necessary health care and basic education for the future .

 

And speaking during the handover ceremony in Mongu district, out-going Western Province Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba said the Social Cash Transfer Programme was aimed at sustaining the vulnerable in eight Districts of Western Province starting at household level.

 

Mr Seyuba noted that the eight districts out of sixteen (16) that have received the Social Cash transfer vehicles in the province were Kalabo, Sikongo, Senanga, Nalolo, Lukulu, Mitete, Shangombo and Sioma.

 

And Acting Provincial Social Welfare Officer Nicholas Goma was delighted to receive the Social Cash Transfer vehicles. 

 

Meanwhile, Lukulu District Social Welfare Officer Namakau Kashina whose district is one of the recipients said that the Land Cruisers will be used for their intended purpose. 

 

And the handover ceremony of SCT vehicles was attended by government officials and Non-governmental organizations from Western province.
