Two people have died on the spot while 17 others suffered serious multiple body injuries following a road traffic accident involving a Lusaka bound bus which was travelling from Nakonde district in Muchinga Province.

This is a second fatal road traffic accident in Muchinga Province in less than 72 hours.

Mr Daka said that the accident involved a Sea Fire comfort liner Higer bus registration number ALX 6518 with 58 passengers on board which was coming from Nakonde going to Lusaka.

He said the accident occurred around 18:00 hours last evening when the driver attempted to overtake a truck and lost control of his bus and overturned near Machango Primary School about 30 km from Chinsali town on the Great North Road.

He said that the two passengers who died on the spot have not yet been identified adding that those admitted at Chinsali District Hospital include 3 children, 4 women and 10 men.

Unidentified female passenger who died on the spot was the last to be retrieved from the wreckage after a –four –hour battle.

Among the injured passengers admitted to Chinsali District hospital include foreign nationals from Swaziland, Tanzanian and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr Daka said that this is the second fatal accident in the province within 3 days after another accident involving a bus that claimed 3 lives on the Mpika/ Kasama road last Thursday involving a Power Tools bus that careered off the road at a depression and over turned.
