———–The SADC Centre for Disability Development, Research, Law and Policy has commended President Edgar Lungu for appointing an all-inclusive Cabinet that has seen six women hold ministerial portfolios.

SADC Disability Centre Analyst Charles Mwape said President Lungu’s cabinet has a national character and shows that the Head of State is determined to lead an administration that will deliver and meet the needs and aspirations of Zambians.

In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Professor Mwape observed that the cabinet appointments have been made above political affiliations and in the interest of Zambians and the country as a whole.

He further said that the composition of the recently unveiled cabinet has demonstrated that President Lungu is a visionary and committed leader geared to develop the country .

Professor Mwape said his organization is elated that President Lungu consulted the MMD leadership before appointing MMD Mwandi and Chipangali Law makers Michael Kaingu and Vincent Mwale as Education Minister and Youth and Sport Minister respectively.

He said President Lungu’s approach to consult shows that he is a democrat who believes in consensus building and respect for inter party relations.

Professor Mwape said his organization supports the intentions of President Lungu to detach and realign some ministries in order to improve service delivery to the Zambian people.

He appealed to the Head of State to move the administration of disability from the Ministry of Community Development to his office as per standard practice in the SADC region.

Professor Mwape also advised that the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities be transformed into the Commission for Persons with Disabilities to influence policy direction.

He cited gender issues as an aspect that has worked in Zambia because it was placed under Cabinet Office as a Division before being upgraded to a ministry.

Professor Mwape has since appealed to President Lungu to appoint a disabled person to Cabinet to promote the principle of self-representation.

He urged Zambians from all walks of life to rally behind Mr Lungu as he undertakes to govern and develop the country and improve people’s livelihood.
