The Zambia Visual Arts Council (ZVAC) has unveiled Zambia’s longest painting which was done by over 2,000 pupils  drawn from various schools countrywide.

The painting was done in a period of 18 days.

During the launch of the 1.8 kilometre painting in the Lusaka Show grounds today, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Country Representative Hamid El-Bashir Ibrahim said the canvas has great meaning because it was a master piece that was depicting Zambia’s history.

Mr. Ibrahim said the expressive painting was a good initiative because it motivates pupils to engage in expressive arts thereby promoting their talents.

And Zambia Visual Arts Council Coordinator Mulenga Chafilwa commended the pupils drawn from 50 government schools for the brilliant painting that teaches about different sectors of the nation.

Mr. Chafilwa hoped that the painting will be displayed in other nine provinces country wide.

And ZAMTEL Chief Marketing Officer Evans Mhanga, whose company pumped in K50, 000 in the painting project, said he was delighted that the vision that involved young people has been realised.

Mr. Mhanga said ZAMTEL will continue supporting such ventures as a way of giving back to the community.

Former President Kenneth Kaunda, former First Lady Christine Kaseba and wife to Acting President Guy Scott, Charlotte, as well as the Ministry of Education were instrumental in bringing the painting into fruition.
