Edgar wins in Shiwangandu constituency amid voter apathy

—————Shiwangandu District Electoral
Officer (DEO) Maybin Mulenga has bemoaned the voter apathy that was
experienced in the district during the Presidential by-elections.


Mr. Mulenga said the turnout of voters on the poll day on Tuesday was
only 6,800 comparing to the 23,132 registered voters.

 

Mr. Mulenga has therefore, encouraged voters to actively participate
in the voting exercise during elections.


Shiwangandu District Electoral Officer said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) soon after the announcement of results at the
totalling centre in Shiwang`andu district last night.


Edgar Lungu of the Patriotic Front got 6,228 beating his closest rival Hakainde Hichilema of UPND 222, MMD Nevers Mumba 83, Edith Nawakwi with 67, and Eric Chanda of 4th Revolution Party got 39 votes.


Tilyenji Kaunda of UNIP got 28, Daniel Pule of CDP 19, Heritage Party Godfrey Miyanda 18,
NAREP Elias Chipimo 17, FDA Sondashi Ludwig 11 and Green Party Peter Sinkamba 4 votes.


Meanwhile, proceedings at the totalling centre was witnessed by representatives from Transparency International Zambia (TIZ), Patriotic Front (PF), Movement for Multi-Party (MMD), United Party for National Development (UPND) and (FDD)
