High note greets Serenje voting

Serenje, January 20, 2015, ZANIS….Voting in today’s presidential by- elections in Serenje Central constituency  has started on a high note and peaceful atmosphere.

 

A check by ZANIS this morning found the polling stations open by exactly 06:00 hours with a considerable number of people in long queues.

 

 By 06:30 hours, Ika Polling station had recorded 45 people who had cast their votes out of 2,092 registered voters while at Kachinda Polling station, 41 out of 963 registered electorates had voted by 07:00 hours.

 

And at the Council hall, 213 people out 2,827 registered voters at the station had cast their votes by 07:00 hours.

 

One of the voters, Essau Jere, who voted at Ika Polling station, said the atmosphere was peaceful and the weather favourable adding that more people were expected to turn up and exercise their right to vote by mid morning.

 

Another voter Christine Kunda who was in the queue to vote at the Council hall commended the polling officers for opening the  station at the recommended time.

 

Kunda also thanked ECZ for providing tents for its officers to execute their duties from.

 

Serenje Central Constituency has a total number of 20, 219 registered voters.
