Namwala polling station flooded by rains
Namwala, January 20, 2014, ZANIS—Voting in today’s presidential by-elections in Namwala constituency  has started on a good note despite one polling station not opening due to heavy floods.

ZANIS reports that Namalio polling station in Mandondo ward had not opened by 06:00 hours due to the heavy floods.

And a check by a ZANIS crew by 06:00 hours at Lubanga Shabongwe school found that about 150 people had lined up to cast their votes.


Another check at Kalundu Basic school found that about 75 people had cast their votes between 06:00 hours and 07:30 hours.


And Namwala Returning Officer Gibson Mweemba told ZANIS that 55 out of the 56 polling stations had been opened by 06:00 hours.


Mr Mweemba added that by 06:00 hours at some wards like Kawilizhi ,Mandondo and Chilumino political party agents had not arrived to monitor the election.

Namwala constituency has 36,732 registered voters.
