Local Government Permanent Secretary Stanford Msichili has disclosed that plans were underway for the construction of a modern market at old Mushili market in Ndola.

Mr. Msichili said all the old structures at the old Mushili market will be demolished to pave way for new structures to be put up.

He said the new market will have a borehole and other necessary facilities that were lacking at the old market.

He said this yesterday when he visited old Mushili market.

Mr. Msichili noted that the old Mushili market was one of the busiest markets in the city hence it needed to be improved by putting up modern structures.

He has since appealed to residents to desist from throwing litter around the markets and drainages as it blocks the drainage systems.

And some marketeers at old Mushili market have welcomed the move to construct a modern trading place.

One of the marketeers Edina Miti said in an interview that the construction of the modern market will help in the provision of proper facilities and also improve security at the market especially for
those with temporal shelters.

Ms. Miti said currently, the market operates without water and toilet facilities, making it very difficult for traders to answer the call of nature.
