Acting President Guy Scott says there is need to have a simpler constitutional way of replacing a deceased president than holding a presidential election.

Dr. Scott said the upcoming January 20 presidential election is a costly undertaking demanded by the republican constitution.

He pointed out that funds being used to hold the presidential polls could be channelled to developmental programmes that could improve the welfare of the people in the country.

Dr. Scott said this when he met traditional leaders and addressed public rallies in Mwinilunga, Ikelenge, and Kasempa districts in North-Western province yesterday.

The Acting President assured the chiefs and the people of North- Western Province that the Patriotic Front (PF) under President Edgar Lungu will complete the constitution making process and ensure that a new constitution is in place before 2016.

Dr. Scott appealed to the chiefs to lead their subjects into voting for PF presidential candidate Edgar Lungu in the January 20 presidential election.

And Chief Lingwe of the Luvale speaking people of Kasempa district commended government for the robust development that has taken place in the country in the last three years.

Chief Lingwe said the pace at which the PF has worked since assuming power in 20111 demonstrates that PF can develop North-Western province and the country at large to the expectation of people.
