23 year old Serenje woman battling for life after hubby assaulted her

 

Serenje January 9, 2015 ZANIS—A 23 year old woman of  Chisomo area in Serenje District is battling for her life in Serenje District Hospital after she was allegedly battered by her husband.

 

Mildi Chalwe who is in a semi-conscious state was allegedly beaten by her husband Thomas Changwe on Friday last week over a radio she borrowed from her brother.

 

Chalwe’s mother Florence Mambwe told ZANIS from her daughter’s bedside that last Friday, Changwe beat up his wife on two occasions over the borrowed radio.

 

Mambwe who vowed not to rest until justice prevails over the assault of her daughter said her daughter sustained serious injuries on her private parts as a result of the beating from her husband.

 

“My daughter came to my home on Friday afternoon bleeding profusely from the nose .She said it was her husband who assaulted her. After a while, Changwe came and took her to their home where in the night, again he battered her leaving her bleeding from her private parts where he was kicking her,” Mambwe explained.

 

Medical practitioners at Serenje District Hospital have described Chalwe’s condition as serious.

 

And Chief Chisomo of the Lala people of Serenje District said Changwe has since been apprehended by the chief’s retainers and will be handed over to Serenje Police station.

 

Chief Chisomo who bemoaned the high cases of spouce battering in his area has since advised his subjects to always seek amicable ways of solving domestic problems other than resorting to d fights.

 

Meanwhile, Serenje Baptist Fellowship Churches Association Coordinator Henry Mukangasa said God gave Man a wife as a helper not a punching bag.

Reverend Mukangasa condemned Gender based Violence and has since called on authorities to ensure that Chalwe’s case is followed up.
