———-Government has urged youths in the country to desist from being used to perpetuate violence ahead of the January 20, 2015 Presidential by-election.

Youth and Sport Deputy Minister Christopher Mulenga said it is important that youths remain peaceful and calm ahead of the Presidential poll.

ZANIS reports that the Youth and Sport Deputy Minister was speaking during a live programme on Mpika FM community radio station in Mpika today.

Mr Mulenga said youths should not be cheated and mislead by people to engage in violence.

He said political violence does not pay but only promotes anarchy, mayhem and disorder and can set the country on fire.

He urged youths to rise above tribal affiliations and sentiments and embrace the spirit of unity and togetherness.

Mr Mulenga appealed to youths to rally behind the Patriotic Front-PF which is working hard to address youth unemployment in the country.

Mr Mulenga dispelled assertions that the ruling party is a violent panga wielding organization.

He urged people around the country to take into consideration the massive developmental programmes the PF has embarked on and vote for Edgar Lungu as President of Zambia in next month’s elections.

Zambia elects a new President on January 20, 2015 following the death of President Michael Sata on October 28, 2014.
