Dar es Salaam, 25 December 2014 – The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) takes this opportunity to announce the resumption of cross-border interstate passenger train operations that were recently suspended in August 2014.

With effect from Tuesday 30 December 2014, the inter-state cross-border passenger trains, between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and New Kapiri-Mposhi in Zambia, will revert back to the old schedules and run through across the borders.

Both the express and ordinary passenger trains will no longer terminate or U-turn at the Tanzania/Zambia border station of Nakonde, but will instead run through all the way to Dar es Salaam and New Kapiri-Mposhi as used to be the case since the inception of the railway.

Timetables

The departure days from Dar es Salaam and New Kapiri-Mposhi remain Tuesdays for the express trains and Fridays for the ordinary trains.

The Kilimanjaro Express Train will depart Dar es Salaam on Tuesdays at 15:50hrs and return from New Kapiri-Mposhi as Kilimanjaro Ordinary Train, departing New Kapiri-Mposhi at 14:00hrs every Friday.

The Mukuba Express Train will depart New Kapiri-Mposhi at 16:00hrs on Tuesdays, and return from Dar es Salaam as Mukuba Ordinary Train, departing Dar es Salaam at 13:50hrs every Friday.

Staying in harmony with our mission

The Acting Managing Director, Eng. Ronald Phiri said this about the changes:

“Our mission is to satisfy customer needs through the provision of an efficient and quality transport service and the last four months have clearly shown that we were slowly straying from our mission.

These changes have been necessitated by our experience since August when we stopped inter-state operations, the numerous complaints we have received from the travelling public as well as the operational challenges we have faced following the transition.”

Ends.
