Voter education progress cheers ECZ

Mungwi, December 24, 2014, ZANIS…. Mungwi District Electoral Officer Gladys Lilanda has disclosed that voter education activities in the area were progressing well.

In an interview with ZANIS in Mungwi today, Mrs. Lilanda expressed happiness that the voter education programme  which commenced on 15th December 2014 in all the wards  is making tremendous progress.

Mrs. Lilanda was however quick to point out that voter education activities in some areas were being hampered by rains.

The District Electoral Officer however expressed optimism that despite the rains the district was determined to reach out to a considerable number of people in order to contribute to the ECZ objective of reducing voter apathy by one percent.

Mrs. Lilanda said her office was working hand-in-hand with the Voter Education Committee (DVEC) to ensure that the programme was successfully implemented in the district.

She has commended ECZ for beefing-up voter education with drama performances in the various wards in the district adding that the move will boost people’s  interest and encourage them to vote in the forthcoming presidential election slated for January 20, 2015.

Voter Education is an initiative of the ECZ that aims at educating the masses on election matters in order to reduce voter apathy and contribute to the holding of a free and fair election.
