Over 400 farmers under the credit facility scheme of the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) in Kasama have complained of not receiving their farming inputs which they have already paid for to the Union.

ZANIS in Kasama reports that the visibly irate farmers are appealing to relevant authorities to intervene in the matter as they are working against the maize production period.

They complained that most of the maize crop in their fields is going to waste because it has not been fertilized a development they described as frustrating .

Group Spokesperson Deodatus Wapabeti said their plight had fallen on deaf ears as each time they present their grievance to ZNFU Regional Officer Hendricks Mwape claims that he had already remitted their money to Niombo Investment.

He said the farmers made their downward payments last August depending on the number of packs a member wanted and were expecting to receive their fertilizer by last month in November.

When contacted for a comment by ZANIS yesterday, Mr Mwape said the farmers would receive the farming inputs later in the day but to no avail further annoying the farmers who vowed to besiege his office this morning.

And Kasama District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya said his efforts to get in touch with Mr Mwape had failed.

The DC has however summoned Mr Mwape to his office next week on Monday.
