Chinsali woman jailed for drug trafficking

——————–Chinsali  Magistrate court has  convict and sentenced a 24- year- old woman of Mulolo Village of Chief Nkula’s Chiefdom to 12 months imprisonment for trafficking in 105 balls of cannabis weighing 88 grams.

Olice Mulenga stood charged with one count of trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to section 6 of Narcotic Drug Act number 191 of 1995 chapter 96 of the laws of Zambia.

 

It is alleged that Mulenga on 15th December, 2014 in Chinsali district of Muchinga province did traffic in psychotropic  substances namely cannabis weighing 88 grams which was found hidden in a black plastic bag in her house after the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers conducted a search.

 

Mulenga pleaded guilty to the charge saying that she was only advised by a friend to use the named drug as medicine to put in her children’s ears.

 

Magistrate Chanda said the court had found Mulenga guilty out of her own admission and convicted her accordingly.

 

Magistrate Chanda said he was sentencing the convict to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date of arrest.

 

In mitigation, the convict pleaded for maximum leniency saying she did not know what she was doing and that she is also pregnant.
