Government says it will ensure that all the existing welfare centres across the country are upgraded to the required standard.
Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health Emerine Kabanshi said government is in the process of ascertaining the number of existing welfare centres in the country.
Ms. Kabanshi said once the number is established, government will then embark on the construction of new welfare centres in all districts where they do not exist.
The Minister said this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
And Ms. Kabanshi said her ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to adopt some of the welfare centres being run by the ministry.
On March 28, 2014, the late President Michael Sata ordered the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health to construct community welfare centres across the country to promote skills training among women especially those in rural areas.
