ZAMBIA 4 – 0 MALAWI

THE Zambia under-20 national team yesterday demonstrated their resolve to mint gold in today’s final of the 2014 African Union Sports Commission (AUSC) Region 5 Games after thumping Malawi in the semi-final at Luveve Stadium.
Striker Patrick Ngoma netted a hat-trick with Patson Daka contributing a goal to storm the final.
Malawi, who sailed through to the semi-final on a better head-to-head record over Angola, were no match for the junior Chipolopolo.
Ngoma opened the scoring in the 11th minute after benefiting from Charles Yande’s pass.
The Red Arrows hitman doubled the lead in the 23rd minute with a clinical finish past goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa after inter-changing passes with Kasashi Lupiya to put Zambia in the driving seat at half-time.
Five minutes after restart, the fired-up Ngoma completed his hat-trick with a stunner following some loose marking in the Malawian defence.
The junior Chipolopolo continued tormenting the Malawians and their efforts paid off on 54 minutes when Under-17 team skipper Daka nodded home Solomon Sakala’s cross.
Daka was five minutes later rested for Harrison Musonda with Kingsley Mukuka replacing injured midfielder Crispin Sakulanda.
Chilombo said Zambia’s intentions of winning gold were known in the opening match when they thrashed South Africa [6-1].
“We are determined to win a gold medal. The boys are very focused,” Chilombo said.
On their way to the semi-final, Zambia, who have 16 goals and conceded one, demolished reigning champions South Africa 6-1 and went on to beat Namibia 2-0 before hammering Lesotho 4-0 in the quarter-final.
