Mpongwe District Council is seeking to acquire 100 hectares of land from Kalunkumya Chiefdom aimed at boosting investment in the area.
Mpongwe district council chairperson Boniface Chushi says the land will be used to develop a township and further promote investment opportunities such as filling stations and shopping malls.
In an interview with ZANIS shortly after paying a courtesy call on his Royal Highness Chief Kalunkumya of the Bulima speaking people, Mr Chushi said Mpongwe still lacks proper infrastructure due to district boundary disputes which have further hampered development in the area.
"The idea is to go to the Kalunkumya Chiefdom and ask for a piece of
land which can be properly planned and advertised to investors and other people willing to buy residential plots," he said.
Mr. Chushi disclosed that his Royal Highness Chief Kalunkumya was willing to provide the Council with a piece of land for better settlement.
"We want to see development here in Mpongwe as well, I can give you an example of Kafue and Chilanga and such is what we would love to see in here ", he stated.
And his Royal Highness Chief Kalunkumya said he was happy with the local authority’s proposal and appealed that information regarding the development plan should reach a wide section of the district.
He disclosed that he would convene a meeting with subjects from his chiefdom to identify land which will be allocated to the local authority as soon as possible.
