Govt. urges women entrepreneurs to utilize village banking
Kafue, December 5 th , 2014,ZANIS —– Government has advised women entrepreneurs in Kafue district to utilize the village banking if they are to increase their source of income.
Lusaka province community development officer, Patrick Phiri, says women entrepreneurs in Kafue district should come forward and apply for the fund to boost their small scale businesses.
Mr. Phiri said the district through the Department for Community Development was allocated K75 000 which has so far benefitted 90 women in small scale entrepreneurship as loans .
ZANIS reports that Mr. Phiri said this during the disbursement of the funds to the beneficiaries at Kasaka sub center in Kafue district.
The provincial community development officer urged the beneficiaries to observe hygiene and ensure that their products are marketable among other requirements.
He noted that the project is a pilot in the district and the beneficiaries are expected to pay back in six months time as this will help increase the number of beneficiaries in the district.
Mr. Phiri further said the funds disbursed range from K200 to K1000 and the beneficiaries are repaying 20 percent weekly to enable them manage the loans.
He added that the funds are given to vulnerable women in the district as a way of uplifting their living standards.
Meanwhile Kafue District Women Association (DWA) Chair person, Monica Mwape, has commended government for the gesture.
Ms Mwape said will help reduce domestic violence in homes.
She has since assured government through the department of community development that the funds will be utilized for the intended purposes.
