THE first phase of the inner Ring Road connecting the Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) to Kafue road, constructed at a total of US$ 27.6 million will be commissioned next week.
The ring road project was adopted as it was seen as a marketing tool to attract new investors in Zambia as the construction of the road will reduce congestion in the city.
Inner ring road acting project manager Mr Barnabas Mwaba said Local Government and Housing Minister Emmanuel Chenda was expected to commission the road on December 12 2014.
The inner ring road, which starts from Lusaka South MFEZ passes through new Kasama near State Lodge before passing through Chalala, Chilenje and Libala residential areas connecting Kafue road.
Mr Mwaba said the construction of the first phase of the inner ring road took 24 months and was being constructed by Shimizu Cooperation.
On the second phase of the inner ring road, Mr Mwaba revealed that works would commence next year once an environmental impact assessment had been concluded.
He further revealed that some industries, houses and churches would be demolished to pave way for the construction adding that those affected would be compensated.
