Some MMD Members of Parliament in support of the political alliance have endorsed the candidature of United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema in the 20th January presidential election.

Speaking on behalf of the MPs, Nalikwanda constituency MP Geoffrey Lungwangwa says Mr. Hichilema will work closely with Lunte MMD Member of Parliament Felix Mutati during the campaigns and after the presidential election.

Professor Lungwangwa says the MMD’s National Executive Committee; the leaders of UPND, ADD and Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka are all in support of the move to support Mr Hichilema’s candidature.
He says the Members of Parliament have with immediate effect constituted themselves as campaign managers in their respective constituencies for Mr Hichilema, stating that the idea of the alliance is in response to call by the people in their respective constituencies.

Professor Lungwangwa explains that they believe that the combination of the two young energetic leaders in Mr Mutati and Mr Hichilema will give the nation the much needed new leadership.

He says the two leaders will lay a firm foundation of focused vibrant leadership for the next 50 years.

He adds that the country needs healing from violence, insecurity and mistrust from those in leadership as well as healing from lack of direction for national development among other areas.

Professor Lungwangwa further states that the recent divisions in the ruling PF and MMD are a threat to the peace, unity and stability of the country.

And UPND Bweengwe Member of Parliament (MP) Highvie Hamudulu has expressed confidence that the alliance will win the forthcoming presidential election.

Present at the briefing was ADD Luena Member of Parliament Mulumemui Imenda, MMD Mumbwa MP Brian Chituwo, Ikelenge MP Elijah Muchima, Zambezi East MP Sara Saifwanda, and Pembe MP Mutinta Mazoka among others.
