Samfya scales-up nutrition fight

Samfya, November 27, 2014,ZANIS………… The authorities in Samfya district in Luapula province have  formed the District Nutrition Co-ordinating Committee (DNCC) to fight high levels of malnutrition.

The committee is aimed at scaling- up nutrition levels in the district as well as help realign and coordinate the district to address the challenge of stunted growth among children in the district.

Mumbwa District Coordinating Committee Chairperson Jacob Mitti who is on a tour of Samfya said the DNCC will support the implementation of the first 1000 most critical days programme and National Nutrition Strategic Plan through offering timely advice to the respective implementing government line ministries.

Mr. Mitti said Samfya district is among the 14 districts with high levels of malnutrition adding that with the help of the DNCC the district will reduce the levels of stunting and malnutrition in communities.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Mitti said this recently during an exchange visit meeting held at Hill Side Lodge in Samfya.

And District Administrative Officer James Mulenga said the visit by Mumbwa district coordinating committee will provide an opportunity to members of Samfya DNCC to learn and share experiences on implementation and coordination of nutrition.

Mr. Mulenga said it was evident that with the exchange visit there will be improved coordination in the implementation of nutrition activities in the district.
