Mongu drunkard pleads guilty to theft

–A 37-year-old farmer of Imwiko compound in Mongu district of Western Province has appeared in a Mongu Magistrate’s Court on one count of theft.


Before Magistrate Albert Kongwa was Likando Kaliki, who stood charged with one count of stealing two blankets valued at K240 both the properties of Gabriel Mubiana, contrary to the Penal Code 272 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.


Particulars of the offence are that on November 21, 2014 Kaliki, whilst in Mongu and   acting together with other unknown persons, stole two blankets.


Kaliki readily pleaded guilty to the charge but told the court that he stole only one blanket, not two.


He told the Court that he had stolen the said property to sell and raise enough money for buying beer.


Kailiki has remained in custody and Magistrate Kongwa has since set November 30, 2014 for facts and judgement.

In another development Mubita Mutumba, aged 21, of Mandanga Compound in Mongu district, has appeared in Mongu Magistrate Court for defilement.


Facts are that on October 27, 2014, while in Mongu district Mutumba allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl under the age of 16 contrary to the amended Act of 2005 of the Penal Code 138 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mutumba denied the charge and the matter has since been adjourned to December 10, 2014 for commencement of trial.


The accused is remanded in custody.
