Two nabbed for old woman’s murder

——–A Seventy-nine-year-old woman of Kaombe area in Serenje district of Central province has been murdered on suspicion that she practiced witchcraft.

Kelina Chaka, a peasant Farmer of Bubela section in Kaombe died on Sunday at Chisomo Rural Health Centre where she was rushed shortly after allegedly being beaten by three men of the same area on suspicion that she was  behind her granddaughter’s failure to bear  children.

Both Chief Chisomo of the Lala people of Serenje District and Central Province Police Commissioner Standwell Lungu confirmed the incidence to ZANIS today in separate interviews.

Chief Chisomo said the three men beat up Chaka on Friday around 19hours as she, together with the three men were going to their homes after a drinking spree.

The traditional leader said Chaka’s assailants allegedly used kicks and blows to beat their victim.

She is said to have sustained a swollen right hand and a cut on the leg.

And Mr Lungu revealed that Police have since arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Chaka.

The Central Province Police Commissioner has since named the suspect as Kabuswe Bwaanga, 24, of Kaombe and Edwell Kalomo 39 also of Kaombe  in chief Chisomo’s area.

He said the other suspect who he only identified as Musonda also of Kaombe area is on the run.

Mr Lungu has advised members of the public to stop taking the law in their own hands.

He advised the younger generation to stop thinking that getting old was a crime as they too will get old.

He further said Police will exhume the body of Chaka for a postmortem.
