MPULUNGU Patriotic Front (PF) member of Parliament (MP) Freedom Sikazwe has said he has never pleaded to be adopted as party candidate for a parliamentary seat, as alleged by Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili.
Mr Sikazwe, who is Northern Province Minister, said he is also disappointed with Mr Kambwili for issuing a press statement that acting President Guy Scott was right to fire Minister of Defence and Justice Edgar Lungu from the position of PF secretary-general.
He said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that he did not plead with anyone to stand on the PF ticket as MP but that the people of Mpulungu had asked him to do so.
“I am very disappointed with Chishimba Kambwili. It is very sad that Mr Kambwili has now started attacking people who are supporting Mr Lungu [Edgar] through the media,” Mr Sikazwe said.
“Let us all rally behind Edgar Lungu so that we can win the forthcoming presidential election,” Mr Sikazwe said.
Mr Sikazwe said PF Members of the Central Committee (MCCs) who are supporting Mr Lungu will not be intimidated.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr Kambwili proved futile as his phone went unanswered by press time.
