Movement for Multi-party Democracy – MMD President Nevers Mumba has maintained that his suspension by the party national executive committee NEC is invalid.
Appearing on Muvi Television assignment programme last evening and monitored by Mano News, Dr Mumba clarified that the MMD constitution does NOT provide for selection of a presidential candidate when the incumbent is eligible to contest an election.
Dr Mumba charged that those pushing for former President Rupiah Banda’s candidature ahead of the January presidential election have hidden agendas.
He wondered why President Banda should be compelled run for presidency when he willfully stepped aside and pledged to support a new party president.
And Dr Mumba has cautioned MMD leaders against imposing a tribal tag on the former ruling party.
He said this is because most of those championing Mr Banda’s come-back are from Eastern Province.
