24th November 2014

Dear Sixth President of Zambia.

Ref: 58 Letters to My Future President. Letter One.

Mr. or Ms. President.

This is the first in a series of 58 letters that I plan to write to you, before you become His or Her Excellency the Sixth President of the Republic of Zambia.

I commit to writing you a letter, every single day from today until 20th January, 2015. I am glad you are getting ready to take your rightful place as the Head of this Great Nation. I may or may not have met you, and I may not get the chance to meet you but I hope you get to read my letters and you do me a few justices.

Today I ask that you promote the use of simple technologies in the Civil Sector. Perhaps promote the digitization of each and every department in Governmental Organizations.

Case in Point: When I go to the Ministry of Lands to check for a title deed, I do not wish to wait in a long queue as the person who got there before me looks through a BOOK full of handwritten title deeds that are ready for collection. A simpler, more efficient, time saving option would be for me to queue up for someone to ask me what my plot number is, and for this person to type it in her PC and then inform me whether my title deed is ready or not and if not, what it’s status is.

The same should be the case at organizations such as NAPSA where every one goes to claim their benefits or pensions. The use of IT will make the civil service better.

Mr. or Ms. President, I thank you for listening to me, and I hope you remember my simple request when you become Father or Mother of our beautiful Nation.

May God perfect that which concerns you.

God in the driver’s seat.

Yours Truly,

Stella Mutale Sata
