Former first Lady Kaseba – Sata joins the race
Lusaka, November 19, 2014, ZANIS —- Former first Dr Christine Kaseba has officially joined the presidential race to contest the January 20th, 2015 Presidential By-elections on the PF ticket.
Dr. Kaseba – Sata made the surprise move today and has since filed in her nomination papers.
She becomes the first female to file in her nomination papers to contest for the position of party president for the ruling patriotic front PF.
ZANIS reports that this is according to a letter dated 19th November 2014 released in Lusaka, today.
Dr Kaseba- Sata said she has observed with pain the unfolding events and divisions within the ruling party.
The former First Lady said this in her letter addressed to the Secretary General of the Patriotic and copied to Acting party President Dr Guy Scott , today.
Dr Kaseba says the Zambians are concerned with the acrimony and shameful violence that has characterised the PF in an effort to find a successor to late president Michael Sata.
She adds that the on-going divisions in the PF if left unchecked poses a real threat not only to the future of the party, but to the achievement and realization of President Sata’s dreams as laid out in the party manifesto.
The former first lady says with all the unfolding events in the party, there is an urgent need to unite the party and consolidate the gains that the PF has made under the leadership the late president.
Dr Kaseba- Sata says she has been approached by concerned citizens from all walks of life, to offer herself the ruling party up to 2016.
She has explained that after introspection and consultation from family members, she has finally decided to heed the calls by offering herself as a neutral candidate who will embrace all as well as continue the vision of her late husband.
“ I worked closely with the late President from inception of PF until his death, there is no one who knows better than herself the sacrifices and struggles he made to build the party” said Dr. Kaseba-Sata.
