Patriotic Front (PF) Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda has noted the importance of his party’s Central committee to develop and implement a constitutional process for nominating the party’s presidential candidate for the forthcoming by-election.

Mr. Lubinda says this process he is calling for should be free, fair and transparent.

In letter dated 14th November 2014 addressed to Acting President Guy Scott, Cabinet Office, PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu and made available to Qfm News today Sunday the 16th of November, Mr. Lubinda has cautioned that failure to do so the ruling party could continue to splinter into further polarized competing camps in the run-up to the Presidential by-election.

Mr. Lubinda has cautioned that with this happening, the ruling PF may consequently experience a spillover of political maneuverings into public view which he says is already happening and will negatively influence the public’s impression of the ruling party.

He states that the unfortunate belief that either the Guy Scott or Edgar Lungu camp can win without each is extremely misguided.

Mr. Lubinda says all camps need each other.

The Kabwata MP has also cautioned that the potential scenario of one camp publicly using levers of power to remove party opponents would permanently discredit the ruling PF in the eyes of public and thereby result in them supporting an opposition party.

He counsels that if such a scenario comes to pass, this will be likely to be the end of the ruling party.

The Parliamentary adds that should the said PF camps continue to squabble publicly it is further expected that global investors would begin to cancel mooted projects, shelve planned investment strategies, and retract current investment thereby existing the country’s market.

He says this would in turn have tremendous negative repercussions on Zambia’s economy through a severe decline in foreign direct investments and thus diminishing the ruling PF’s credibility in working towards strengthening the economy.

Mr. Lubinda has since advised that in order to avoid such an outcome, it is essential for the members of the ruling party to come together and publically agree on ground rules that select the party’s presidential candidate in a free, fair, transparent and constitutional process not subjected to dispute.

He has urged and pleaded with both the Guy Scott and Edgar Lungu camps that the party immediately resolves this issue and preserve the ruling PF beyond the year 2016.

  1. There is need to find out why the two parties are differing? Is it their failure to interpret nicely the party constitution? Is it selfishness? Do we have outsiders creating this situation? If they are there what are they really looking for? What is there interest? There is no opposition that can win this election. Just sort out your issues as quickly as possible so we start campaigning. PF all the way
