The Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) in Kafue district has offered free connection   of water to Soloboni and Zambia compounds in the area.

LWSC Kafue branch manager David Ngenda   said the offer will increase access to safe drinking water among households in the two communities.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Ngenda said this during the handover of a water project by Kafue Child Development Agency in partnership with Childfund Zambia to Kafue district council.

He  explained that  the offer of free water connection runs up to  December 2014 and a minimal charge will  be  added  through  prepaid meters  that will be installed  .

Speaking earlier, Kafue Child Development Agency chairperson, Tracy Kasempa said her organisation attaches great importance to the development of children in the district.

Ms.  Kasempa said  the water project  will help  to reduce the  risk  of  contracting  water borne diseases  and  vulnerability among children in the two highly populated areas .

She has further pledged her organisation’s commitment to working with government in uplifting the living standards of   communities in the district.

She disclosed that the project worth more than K 74,000 was undertaken in partnership with the water utility company, LWSC which provided the technical aspect.

Meanwhile, the Shabusale ward councillor, Gibson Sinkala   commended both Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Kafue branch for the offer to connect water without a charge and Kafue Child development Agency for implementing the project in his ward.

Mr. Sinkala has since called on the residents to safeguard the facility for them to continue accessing clean drinking water.
