Matero Member of Parliament (MP) Miles Sampa has launched a bid to seek adoption as Patriotic Front (PF) presidential candidate.
Mr Sampa launched his bid at a media briefing held at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka where he called for his supporters to rally behind him because he was a youthful leader who had delivered development to Matero Constituency.

The Matero MP, who is Commerce Deputy Minister, said he had done a lot of projects in Matero that had benefitted the citizens in the area.
“Following the announcement that the party president will be decided at the general conference in Kabwe and invitations for applications open, I wish to announce that I have received a lot of submissions from the youth urging me to stand as a presidential candidate,” Mr Sampa said.
He said he was exercising his democratic right and, therefore, standing as a presidential candidate at the PF general conference.
“I am not being controlled by anyone, I am exercising my own right and will not be intimidated by anyone,” he added.
Mr Sampa formally delivered his presidential nomination papers to the Acting President Guy Scott’s office at Cabinet Office.
He was escorted to Cabinet Office by his supporters, who later went to see Dr Scott at Government House.

The acting president advised Mr Sampa’s supporters to be peaceful during their campaigns.
“I am the party president so I cannot support one candidate but I wish you all the best,” Dr Scott said. “But ensure that you are peaceful during your campaigns.”
