Waste disposal worries Mongu council

Mongu, November 14, ZANIS—Mongu Municipal Council has embarked on  a sensitization programme to the general publics on how best to dispose of waste in the district.

Mongu Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Lusale Kaseba said the local authority was displeased with the arbitrary dumping of garbage in the town.

Ms. Kaseba said garbage has become an eye sores in the town.

She charged that disposing of waste matters anyhow can result into the outbreak of various diseases if not well managed.

She said there was therefore need to sensitize the public on the danger of indiscriminately discharging of wastes.

Ms. Kaseba told ZANIS that some people in the area have a habit of throwing waste materials in stagnant water, which is acting as reservoir for the breeding of micro-organisms that pose health hazards to the local people.

Ms. Kaseba noted that the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has deployed council police officers to check on levels of sanity in the district and take punitive measures against culprits.

She warned that anyone who will be found discharging waste matters carelessly will be fined K3, 000 or in default simple imprisonment to deter who would be next offenders.
