This coming Monday, November 17, Pope Francis will offer the opening remarks at a colloquium in Vatican City entitled The Complementarity of Man and Woman.

Thereafter, presenters from 14 religious traditions and 23 countries will explain how their tradition understands the relationship between the man and the woman in marriage, as it is lived in this world, and as it reflects the divine plan.

The colloquium will feature speakers from the Sikh, Tao, Islamic, Jewish, Anglican, Mormon, Mennonite, and other religious traditions. The schedule may be found at humanum.it.

Six films will debut, featuring the ideas and the testimony of women and men, the old and the young, lay and religious, single and married persons, from across the globe.

The conference is led by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in cooperation with three other Vatican offices.

For Rome-based media, a press conference will be held at Palazzo Cardinal Cesi, Via della Conciliazione 51, Rome, on Monday 17th November at 1.15pm. Speakers who have agreed to attend include Rabbi Lord Sacks, former Chief Rabbi of the UK, and Pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church in California (subject to change). Food and refreshments will be provided.
