The Patriotic Front (PF) members in Northern province have called on the party members to consider going for the general conference to choose a Presidential candidate for the forth presidential by election.

The PF members from Northern province who gathered Nov 13th  in Lusaka refuted claims that they had endorsed a presidential candidate.

Speaking during a press briefing Nov 13th , Northern Province Secretary Evaristo Chella said the province is challenging other party members to consider going for a general conference a move which will signify Zambia as a democratic country.

He said members were free to contest and a list of names should be submitted to ensure that a right candidate is endorsed.

And Northern Province Treasurer Chomba Chipili said the demand to hold a general conference was in line with the Constitution.

He said members should not come up with one individual but every province in the country was free to participate in the endorsement of a Presidential candidate.

Mr Chipili said the conference will help the country to maintain peace and unity during and after the 2015 presidential by election.

Meanwhile, Kasama District Chairperson Caleb Monta says the district was in support of holding of a general conference.

He said the late President Michael Sata understood the Constitution and despite being the founder member the party went for the general conference and he was endorsed candidate through the same process .

Mr Monta said the Constitution was clear on the holding of a general conference and shortcuts should not be used when endorsing a presidential candidate.
