Lightening kills two in Nchelenge

Nchelenge, November 14, 2014, ZANIS…Two people have been killed by lightening in Nchelenge district of Luapula Province.

Luapula province Commissioner of Police Malcolm Mulenga confirmed the deaths of the duo in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Nchelenge this morning.

Mr. Mulenga said one of the deceased is a 16-year-old grade five pupil of Chandwe primary school who was burnt to death after the grass thatched house he was in was struck by lightening around 06: 00 hours yesterday.

He said the house and property were reduced to ashes and identified the deceased as Goliath Nkonkola junior of Yenga village in chief Kambwali’s area and that his remains have since been buried. 

The provincial police chief said another house belonging to Leonard Chungu 65 of Kasonkomona village in Kambwali chiefdom was spontaneously truck by lightening almost at the same time.

Mr. Mulenga further said the house instantly started burning but the alert neighbours rescued Mr. Chungu who unfortunately later died of shock.

He said the house and property of the deceased were all destroyed in the ensuing inferno and he would be buried today.
