Rain storm leaves trail of destruction

Chavuma, November  13, 2014,ZANIS……..A rain storm has left a one by two classroom block at Lukolwe Junior secondary school in Chavuma district extensively damaged.

Chavuma District Education Standards Officer  Nyundu Kasoka who confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview today said the classroom block had its roof blown-off following a heavy downpour that was experienced in the area on Tuesday.

Mr. Kasoka said no one was injured during the incident and that all the examination materials at the school are intact.

He also said that another classroom block at Chilonga primary school had its roof almost blown-off and emphasized the need to have it repaired as soon as possible.

Mr. Kasoka further added that the walls of another classroom block at Chinwandumba primary school have been weakened after it was struck by lightning around 20:00 hours last week.

He has since appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to assist the affected schools to enable pupils and teachers to operate in a conducive environment.
